Mike joined BBC television in 1972 at the ripe age of 18 and initially worked at television centre and subsequently on BBC TV OBs.
While on a diving holiday he was bitten by the underwater photography bug and started to make his own short films. In 1986 the director Nicolas Roeg asked him to shoot underwater scenes in the Seychelles for his movie “Castaway”.
He took a gamble, resigned from the beeb and went on to shoot underwater sequences on 93 feature films including many “Bonds”.
His roots however have still remained in sound and to this end a few years ago he started his audiophile record label “Chasing The Dragon” and Direct Cut records, where the output of the desk at Air Studios would feed their record cutting lathe. The challenge being that everything has to be performed without any hitches.
One of his recent albums is of Clare Teal and the Syd Lawrence Orchestra performing a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald which in fact was put up for Grammy!
Most recently he has recorded several albums using a Neumann Binaural Head with very interesting results.
This presentation will be preceded by the (very short) proceedings of the IPS AGM.
